Manchester United 2 Arsenal 1: Late Fellaini header downs Wenger´s callow Gunners

Marouane Fellaini headed a stoppage-time winner to earn Manchester United a 2-1 home victory in Arsene Wenger s last visit to Old Trafford as Arsenal manager.

Wenger, presented with a gift by old rival Alex Ferguson before kick-off, rested the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette with an eye on Thursday s Europa League semi-final, naming his youngest league XI since 2011 s infamous 8-2 loss at United.

And the Frenchman s young side were on track to do him proud, Henrikh Mkhitaryan levelling on his Old Trafford return after Paul Pogba s early opener for United.

But although United s attack was depleted by an injury that forced Romelu Lukaku off early in the second half, Jose Mourinho s men came up with a late winner.

Icardi s effort put PSG 2-0 up, with Pablo Sarabia s neat strike having given Thomas Tuchel s side a 13th-minute lead.

Wednesday s game against Belgium may be Zlatan Ibrahimovic s last for Sweden after he announced he will retire from internationals following Euro 2016.

Sweden head into their final Group E fixture in Nice likely needing a win to reach the last 16.

In a pre-match media conference on Tuesday, Ibrahimovic said: The last game at the Euros will be my last game for Sweden. I will not play at the Olympics.

Ibrahimovic came into the tournament aiming to become the first man to score at four European Championships, but has so far struggled to make an impact, drawing blanks against Republic of Ireland and Italy.

Injuries over the past few seasons have restricted Pareja s availability and he made just five LaLiga appearances over the course of the previous campaign, for which he was club captain.

Toney left out by England for World Cup on ´footballing grounds´, insists FA chief

Football Association chief executive Mark Bullingham says Ivan Toney was not picked for England s World Cup squad on footballing grounds .

Brentford striker Toney was charged with 232 alleged breaches of the FA s betting rules over a near-four-year period on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old has until next Thursday to respond after he previously stated he was cooperating with an investigation into any alleged infringements.

Toney, before the revelation of the ongoing investigation was announced, missed out on Gareth Southgate s 26-man squad for Qatar, though Bullingham insisted the decision was for on-field reasons.

He was absolutely available for selection, Bullingham told the BBC. He was not chosen on footballing grounds.

You’ve got to dream big: Lewis Dunk eyes Europa League glory with Brighton

Captain Lewis Dunk says Brighton are dreaming of Europa League glory after securing a spot in the knockout stages on a historic day for the club.

Albion guaranteed a top-two finish in Group B with a game to spare thanks to an unconvincing 1-0 victory away to 10-man AEK Athens.

Joao Pedro’s 55th-minute penalty proved the difference against the Greek champions as the Seagulls set aside a disjointed display to progress ahead of a final-round fixture at home to Marseille on December 14.

Defender Dunk is determined to finish in first place in the pool in order to advance directly to the last 16 and avoid a knockout round play-off against a team falling out of the Champions League.

Manchester City 3-2 Liverpool: Haaland on target and De Bruyne shines as holders exit EFL Cup

Erling Haaland scored his 24th goal of the season and Kevin De Bruyne delivered a masterclass as Manchester City beat holders Liverpool 3-2 to reach the EFL Cup quarter-finals.

The two heavyweights served up a thriller at the Etihad Stadium in their first game after the World Cup break, and it was the Premier League champions who deservedly came out on top.

Haaland opened the scoring, only for Fabio Carvalho to equalise in the first half of a pulsating tie on Thursday.

Riyad Mahrez restored City s lead right at the start of the season half, but Mohamed Salah soon levelled with his 15th goal of the campaign.

The outstanding De Bruyne then provided a second assist of the game for Nathan Ake, and Jurgen Klopp s men were unable to respond for a third time, su…

Barcelona v Real Madrid: How Rakitic and Valverde became unlikely keys to Clasico success

Ever since Cristiano Ronaldo joined Juventus, it s been hard to pin down a Clasico duel to rival the Portugal star s battle with Lionel Messi.

We could have one on Wednesday, though, from two pretty unlikely sources.

Ivan Rakitic and Federico Valverde are likely to start at Camp Nou this week, when Spain s grandest rivalry renews with the LaLiga head-to-head record locked at 72 wins each from 178 meetings (Barca, it s worth noting, have never been ahead of Madrid in terms of league wins).

Each player has become potentially pivotal for this latest meeting, which is fairly remarkable given their respective standings in the first-team picture when the season got underway in August.
