Two Championship outfits that are seeking some much-needed stability, Swansea will welcome Preston to the Liberty on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Swansea might have snatched a 2-1 victory away at Rotherham earlier in the month, it appears that might have just been a minor boost. Last seen putting in another worrying performance as they slumped to a 2-1 loss at the hands of Middlesbrough, the Welsh outfit have recorded just a single win from any of their previous seven Championship appearances. With that extended rut stemming all the way back to October 28th, some in Swansea’s camp will be starting to look over their shoulder at a looming relegation scrap. Signing off November with a 3-1 defeat against promotion contenders Leeds, Friday’s hosts have also continued to show some rather glaring defensive issues. Without a clean sheet to their name since returning from November’s international break, the Whites will know the importance of claiming a crucial boost this weekend. However, it should be noted, Swansea have seen all of their previous seven outings finish with both teams finding the net.
As for the visitors, although Preston might have come flying out of the traps when opening up the 2023/24 campaign, Ryan Lowe’s side have come crashing back down to earth. Last seen putting in a woeful performance on home soil as they slumped to a 5-1 drumming against Watford, the Lilywhites have come tumbling out the play-off places. Despite claiming a 3-1 victory away at Huddersfield earlier in the month, that is the only win that they have recorded from their previous five Championship appearances. Signing off November with a 4-0 loss at the hands of Middlesbrough, Lowe will have a mounting headache over his side’s extended issues outside of Lancashire. Remarkably recording just a single clean sheet since the start of September, chances could come thick and fast this weekend. With the last two showdowns between Friday’s opponents producing seven strikes at both ends of the pitch, we are expecting another enjoyable affair from south Wales here.
